How to make your Ecommerce site more user friendly

The world of Ecommerce is incredibly competitive. On the physical high street, once a consumer is inside your shop you have a fair chance of making a sale. Their alternative is that they leave the shop, walk down the road, and into our rival’s store. Online, your competition is the click of a button away.

So, you need to make your site as user friendly as possible. Of course, having the best products and prices helps but if your site is confusing or difficult to navigate, you might still lose customers no matter how good the offer.

Here are five ways you can make your site more successful

Call to action/Sign up

Call to action buttons almost always result in higher conversion rates but you need to make them stand out. Get them front and centre, obvious and clearly labelled. Sign up forms should be short and only require the minimum amount of info. An email address and password is all you need. Mailing addresses, phone numbers and the rest can be acquired once you’ve made a sale.

No need to register

Online shoppers hate long and tedious sign up processes. Not everyone wants to join; sometimes they just want to make a quick purchase, so make sure you give them the option. This will increase sales and customer retention, as well as reducing cart abandonment.

Search

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Use the search function. Can’t find that either? Go elsewhere. It’s as simple as that. So make sure you have a detailed search function that lets customers find what they’re looking for.

Staged navigation

Sometimes known as breadcrumb navigation, this lets customers know exactly where they are in the process. If they think the process is going to drag on, they might abandon their cart. If they know there are only two more stages, they’ll keep going.

Security

Shoppers want to know that they are safe and secure, and that their details are being looked after correctly. Get a trust certificate and an updated SSL certificate to build customer trust and help to boost your sales.

As well as these top tips, there is plenty more you can do, such as suggested purchases and avoiding hidden charges. Keep everything clean, simple and up front and your customers will keep coming back for more.
