Google is to launch a Page Speed service, rewriting your webpages on the fly, increasing load times up to 60%
Today Google announced it would be launching a service as an add-on to its existing page speed service which promises to increase the loading time of your pages by 25% to 60%. All of the files will still be held on your server and you will simply need to point your sites’ DNS to Google and they will do the rest!
So how does the service speed up pages? For a start it compresses images, CSS and scripts as well as optimised caching and gzipping of resources. Before you sign up Google will give you a rough idea of the increased performance. The service will launch for free later tonight, but only to a select few who will be testing the service prior to its public launch. Once all of the bugs have been ironed out Google will allow anyone to sign up and rates are said to be competitive.
